Blog 1.5

So this week I was still quarantined until Monday and there were many other people quarantined, so I wasn't able to train him in a group of people like I wanted. As an alternative, I decided to take Jerzey on walks other than our normal route. We went on a couple of walks on mainstreet and worked on all of the same things as usual. I also took him around the trails at spotted eagle. This alternative opened my eyes because I didn't notice how Jerzey was so used to our normal route. He acted differently during our walks this week. He was not aware of everything that was around him, so that made him "be on the look out". He had to know what every sound was. Although he was more aware what was going on, he still listened to my commands and did them very well. He would listen right away, but would still complain (he is a very stubborn dog and loves to complain and "talk back"). The commands that we would work on is sitting/staying and laying down/staying. I would tell him either of these commands and then walk away and he would have to stay. Before I started this genius hour he already knew how to do this, so it was not such a difficult task. One day, there was another person walking their dogs infront of us and I wanted to see how he would react doing one of these commands. This is when he had a rough time. He would still listen to me, but he didnt want to stay. He wanted to come stand by me. On our walks on main street, he reacted better than I thought he would. He would stay by my side and listen to me. At every stoplight I would have him either sit or lay down. I think he is a pro at those skills! We also worked on the attention youtube video I talked about in my previous blog. This, I would say was a fail. When I brought his leash out, my other dogs heard it ad got really excited and it was just a mess! I am going to try this again, but in a differet place where my other dogs are not located. Hopefully this will help! I am glad about how this week turned out and am excited about next week!
